Gary W. Fisher, D.V.M, 77, of Winterset died July 10, 2013, at his home.
Funeral services were 11 a.m. Monday, July 15, at the First United Methodist Church in Winterset. Burial was in Winterset Cemetery. Ochiltree Funeral Service, 1823 N. Gary William Fisher, son of Clara (Bauer) and Jay Fisher, was born Dec. 16, 1935, in rural Greene County.
Gary graduated from Paton Churdan High School and later attended the University of Iowa where he trained to become an X-ray technician. He later studied pre-med at Illinois Wesleyan in Bloomington-Normal, Ill.
On Dec. 28, 1957, Gary married Phyllis Skaggs at the Methodist Church in Mason City, Ill.
After their marriage, they moved to Ames, where he enrolled in the College of Veterinary Medicine at Iowa State University, graduating in 1963.
Gary practiced veterinary medicine in Osceola from 1963, until he purchased his own practice in Winterset in 1974, where he has practiced since.
Gary was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Winterset, Iowa Veterinary Medical Association (IVMA) and ISU Alumni Association and was a Mason.
Gary is survived by his children, Tamara Fisher (John Jones) of Norwalk, Lisa (Todd) Nicholson of Winterset and Kurt (Julie) Fisher of Urbandale; daughter-in-law Penny Fisher of West Des Moines; sister Marjorie Thompson of East Alton, Ill.; grandchildren, Weston Jones, Tyler (Lindsey) Fisher, Austin Fisher, Sam and Jessie Nicholson and Devan and Charlee Fisher; and brothers- and sisters-in-law, Leon (Sonya) Skaggs of Park City, Mont., Carol (Gordon) Palm of St. Marys, Ga., Edwin Skaggs of Aurora, Ill., Paul Skaggs of Mason City, Ill., Dale Skaggs (Lynda Lambert) of Milwaukee, Wis., and Dean (Pat) Skaggs of New Carlisle, Ind.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents; wife in 2011; son Todd Fisher; brother Edwin Fisher and brothers-in-law, Don R. Thompson and Darrell Skaggs.
