Esther Otte Creston

Esther Otte, 99, of Creston died July 3, 2013, at Prairie View Assisted Living in Creston.

Funeral services were Saturday, July 6, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, rural Clarinda, with interment in Immanuel Cemetery. Eickemeyer Funeral Chapel, Clarinda, was in charge of arrangements. Esther Marie (Nothwehr) Otte, daughter of Amelia (Herzberg) and Henry Nothwehr, was born Feb. 20, 1914, near Yorktown.

Esther attended St. Paul Lutheran Church and graduated from St. Paul Lutheran School.

On Nov. 22, 1934, Esther married Harold Otte at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Yorktown.

The couple lived with Harold’s parents until their own house was completed in the mid-1930s.

Esther was a member of the Immanuel LWML Quilting Group, L.L.L. and JHC Garden Club, made up of neighbor women.

Esther lived in Creston for several years, since Harold’s death, so she would be closer to her daughter and son-in-law, Beverly and Tom.

Esther is survived by her children, Eugene (wife Diane) Otte of Stockton, Calif., and Beverly (husband Tom) Braymen of Creston; grandchildren, Lisa and Dave Carter of West Des Moines and their children, Gabe and Jessica Carter; and Mike and Cathy Otte of Stockton, Calif., and their daughter Nicole Otte of Stockton; grandchildren by marriage, Bambi, Danielle and Steve; five great-grandchildren by marriage; sister-in-law Leona Nothwehr of Clarinda; and brother-in-law LaVern (wife Dorothy) Otte of Clarinda.

Esther was preceded in death by her husband in June 1977; parents; son Don Otte and his wife Bernice; granddaughter Julie Braymen; and siblings, Clarence Nothwehr, Margaret Sunderman and her husband Emmett, and Anna Mejia and her husband Dick.
