Ronald Fouche Osceola

Ronald Fouche, 84, of Osceola died April 16, 2013, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center.

Funeral services were 10 a.m. Saturday, April 20, at Kale Funeral Home, 301 S. Main St. The Rev. Marty Burgus officiated. Burial was in Fremont Cemetery, Clarke County. Memorials may be given to the famly to be decided at a later date.

Ronald Isaac Fouche, son of Ruth Ann (Scott) and Arley Ray Fouche, was born March 12, 1929, in Osceola.

Ron grew up in Washington Township, where he attended Mudsock Country Schools for eight years and Osceola High School for four years, graduating in 1947.

Ron joined the Air Force in 1950, where he served four years in the Korean War, three of those years he served with the Second RSM Radio Squadron Mobile in Germany Darmstadt.

After discharge from the service, Ron returned home and married Shirley Ann Joy, Sept. 18, 1955, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua.

Ron worked as a substitute mail carrier and then was a rural mail carrier for a total of 17 years. He received the lifesaving award in 1990 from the U.S. Postal Service.

Ron and Shirley have lived on the farm, raising and showing sheep and producing Limousin cattle. He did artificial insemination for more than 50 years, breeding 10,000 cows his first three years. Ron and Shirley were also master lamb producers in 1967.

Ron was a member of Murray Church of Christ, Osceola Lodge No. 77 A.F. and A.M., Davis-Pence American Legion Post No. 69, Clarke County Cattleman’s Association, Osceola Eagles Lodge Aerie No. 3495, Iowa Limousin Association, Clarke County Sheriff’s Posse and Mounted Posse and honorary chapter farmer of FFA. He also served as township assessor and trustee, served on boards of FHA, Farmers Co-op, Extension and others. He was a 4-H leader for many years and sheep superintendent at county fairs.

Ron is survived by his wife Shirley Ann Fouche of Osceola; daughters, Joy Sue (Dianna) Fouche of Lake Stevens, Wash., and Ronda (Andy) Schrodt of Murray; granddaughters, Hannah Schrodt (Barry Tangney) of Des Moines, Rachael Schrodt (Andy Smith) of Des Moines and Morgan Schrodt of Murray; sister-in-law, Donabelle (Kenneth) Graham of Humeston; brother-in-law Merle (Judy) Joy of Bellfonta, Pa.; AFS daughter Tina Sazbo of Denmark; special friend Mitch Cazier of California; as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family members.

Ron was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Robert and Ralph Fouche; and sisters-in-law, Evelyn Fouche Bryant and Helen Frances Fouche.
