Gregory Thornton, 52, of Osceola died Feb. 18, 2013.
Services were 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 21, at Kale Funeral Home, 301 S. Main St. The Rev. Scott Davis officiated. Interment was in Maple Hill Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to his family for a fitting tribute to Clarke County Fairgrounds.
Gregory Alan Thornton, son of Merrill Thornton and Deloris Osborn Thornton Sutton, was born June 18, 1960, in Osceola.
Greg graduated from Clarke Community High School in 1978.
On May 1, 2003, Greg married Marla Kay Brodsack in Las Vegas, Nev.
Greg farmed and also worked as a heavy equipment operator. After working in construction for a number of years, Greg along with his friend Brock, started their partnership called Thornton Swan Excavating. During that time, Greg was involved in building many Casey’s stores across the Midwest.
Greg is survived by his wife Marla of Osceola; daughters, Dakota Nicole Thornton and Cheyenne Renee Thornton, both of Osceola; stepdaughter Kasi Lanai (Adam) Heggins of Osceola; stepson Kip Dalton Poush of Osceola; mother Deloris (Walt) Sutton of Osceola; father Merrill (Lou) Thornton of Urbandale; sister Kathy (Jim) Albrecht of Austin, Texas; sister Amy (Todd) Siefkas of Clive; grandchildren, Bianca, Kya, Gabriella, Tate and Dante; uncle Nelson (Mariann) Thornton of Winterset; sister-in-law Dixie (Bruce) Beeman of Kansas City, Mo.; brother-in-law Dana Brodsack of Osceola; sister-in-law Marcena Carter of Kansas City, Mo.; other relatives and many friends.
Greg was preceded in death by his grandparents, E.W. and Lois I. Osborn and Russell and Edith E. Thornton; father- and mother-in-law, Don and Betty Brodsack; and grandson Titus Gregory Utley.
