Sixth-ranked Adair-Casey runs away from O-M

ORIENT — Class 1A sixth-ranked Adair-Casey’s balance and size proved to be too much for the Orient-Macksburg girls basketball team here Tuesday night during the “Be Bold, Go Gold” fundraiser event for children’s cancer.

The Bombers took control midway through the first quarter, taking a 25-7 lead at the first quarter intermission on their way to a 78-27 win.

After Adair-Casey started the game on an 8-0 run, Orient-Macksburg head coach Kelli Goodale called a timeout, and her team responded coming out of the timeout.

Morgan James got free on a backdoor cut for a layup, and after a pair of free throws for the Bombers, Lisa Moss hit a 3-pointer from the corner to cut the lead to 10-5.

After a Shannon Eads jumper from the corner made the score 15-7, the Bombers went on a 10-0 run to close the quarter.

“They’re a tough team,” Goodale said. “I told the girls they’re going to work us hard and probably press us, and that we need to be ready for that and be ready to take care of the ball.”

When the Bulldogs were able to break the press during the first half, they were able to generate good looks at the basket.

Moss scored seven of her nine points in the first half.

“Lisa did pretty well shooting-wise,” Goodale said. “She got a lot of shots off. She got some good, wide open looks.”

But points were more difficult to come by in the second half for the Bulldogs. Adair-Casey went on a 23-3 run in the third quarter.

James added seven points for Orient-Macksburg, while Shyla Waldhauser scored six points.

London Vais led the Bombers with 27 points.

Orient-Macksburg (2-17) travels to Glidden-Ralston on Friday before hosting Mormon Trail at 5 p.m. on Saturday.
