Charles W. Cook, 89, of Chariton died Nov. 23, 2012.

Charles W. Cook was born Jan. 2, 1923, in Woodburn in rural Clarke County, where he resided until 1945 when he joined the Army.
In 1948, Charles moved to a farm in Lucas County north of Russell.
In January 1949, Charles married Catherine Jones.
Charles farmed and drove truck for Etter Livestock until his retirement in 1997.
After retirement, he moved to Southgate Apartments in Chariton.
Charles volunteered at Lucas County Humane Society where he walked dogs.
Charles is survived by his wife Catherine; children, Florence (Marshall) Comstock, David (Barbra) Cook and Gene (Sabrina) Cook; former daughter-in-law Jeannie Tuttle-Cook; nine grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
Charles was preceded in death by his father Orval L. Cook and mother Margaret E. Smith-Cook.
