Sylvia Hoyt, 76, of Hopeville died Sept. 4, 2012, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 10, at Hopeville United Methodist Church. The Rev. Dwayne Henrichs will officiate. Burial will be in Hopeville Cemetery. Visitation with family present will be 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at the church. Powers Funeral Home, junction of highways 34 and 25, Creston, is in charge of arrangements. Sylvia Elaine Hoyt, daughter of Stella Pearl (Jerome) and Carl Herbert Clement, was born Oct. 18, 1935, in Grand Island, Neb.
Sylvia graduated from Murray High School in 1954.
On Oct. 1, 1954, Sylvia married Donald Dean Hoyt in Creston.
They settled in Des Moines, where she worked as a secretary at the Iowa State Capitol. They later moved to the Creston area, where she became a homemaker.
Later in 1965, she moved to Hopeville, where she was part of the Union County Saddle Club.
Sylvia is survived by her husband Don Hoyt of Afton; sons, Ed Hoyt (girlfriend Janet Overy) of Moline, Ill., and Jerry Hoyt of Osceola; daughters, Susan (husband Richard) Rote of Hopeville and Sandy Holder (fiance Robert Hyatt) of Des Moines; grandchildren, Crystal (husband Jason) Hayes, Tracy Rote (boyfriend Cameron Bainter), Brian (wife Jessica) Rote and Chelsey (husband Donnie) Simmerman, Kalina Wheilan-Hoyt and Trebor, Tara and Taylor Holder; seven great-grandchildren and brother Merlin Clement of Mount Ayr.
Sylvia was preceded in death by her parents; son Danny in January 2011; and grandson Steven Dean Hoyt.
