Louella Hess, 88, of Leon died July 25, 2012, at Westview Acres in Leon.
Funeral services were 10 a.m. Saturday, July 28, at Slade-O’Donnell Funeral Home in Leon. The Rev. Max Carmichael officiated. Burial was in Leon Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established by the family.
Louella Pearl Hess, daughter of Alice Ida (Brookshire) and Elwell Franklin Pearce, was born Feb. 8, 1924, in Enid, Okla.
As a young girl, Louella moved with her family to Denver, Colo., and they later settled on a farm near Peru.
On July 3, 1940, Louella married Guy Alvin Hess in Princeton, Mo.
While Guy served in World War II, Louella lived in Peru and worked as a beautician for several years.
After Guy returned, they made their home in Murray.
They also lived in Lorimor.
After leaving Lorimor, they lived on a farmstead north of Leon. Guy and Luella later farmed west of Van Wert for several years. Louella worked as a waitress at Hanoco and O’Bryan Brothers and at Beardsley’s apple orchard.
Louella and Guy also lived in Osceola and moved into Leon in the early 1990s.
Louella is survived by her husband Guy Hess of Westview Acres in Leon; daughter Bonnie Elsberry (companion Paul Weigel) of Leon; grandchildren, Deb (husband Brian) Greene of Davis City, Darrell (wife Mary) Elsberry of Leon, Denise (husband Dusty) Buckingham of Leon and Deanna (husband Jake) Stone of Leon; great-grandchildren, Sadie and Zane Greene, Sam and Jeals Elsberry, Autumn, Allie and Abigail Buckingham and Emmy, Isabel and Adeline Stone; sister Lauricean (husband Duane) Oakland of Silvis, Ill.; other relatives and friends.
Louella was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Eva Nichols, Mabel “Patsy” Atkinson, Imogene Pearce and Juanita Pearce; and brothers, Cary LeRoy Waugh and Frank Pearce.
