MOUNT AYR — The city of Mount Ayr was without water again for more than five hours Tuesday.
“We had a citizen come in and tell us there was a water leak on East Adams and North Tyler streets,” said Amanda Cannon, Mount Ayr utilities clerk. “They told us they could see the water on the street. So, we immediately called our workers, and as they exposed the leak, it was bigger than what they thought it was, and the towers were drained.”
Water pressure was restored to the city of Mount Ayr around 7:45 p.m. Monday. The city is under a boil ordinance for 48 hours.
“The water is back on, but it still needs to be boiled and conserved,” said Cannon.
This is the third time in three months the city of Mount Ayr has been without water. In May, a water main on Jefferson Street broke, causing both towers to be completely drained. In April, a wire melted inside of the water plant north of Mount Ayr on Highway 169, causing the water pump to stop working and the entire system lost pressure.
