Gary Genners, 78, of Kansas City, Mo., formerly of Creston, died June 5, 2012, at Kindred Hospital in Kansas City, Mo.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 9, at Powers Funeral Home, junction of highways 34 and 25, Creston. The Rev. Jim Morris will officiate. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery, south of Creston with full military rites by the Iowa National Guard Military Honor Team and Theodore J. Martens VFW Post 1797 of Creston. Open visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Friday with family present 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be given in Gary's name to the Wounded Warrior project. Gary Gene Genners, son of Olive Martha (Tindle) and Frederick James Genners, was born March 30, 1934, in Creston.
Gary graduated from Creston High School and attended Omaha University in Omaha, Neb.
On Dec. 30, 1953, Gary married Patricia Irene Mullin in Creston.
Because of Gary’s military service, along with 27 years as a civilian employee for the Department of Defense, he and his family lived all over the United States, including Iowa, Nebraska, Kansas, Arizona and Alabama. As a Department of Defense employee, Gary worked with the Army Reserve, Army Corps of Engineers, Office of the Inspector General and Air Force. He retired in August 1997.
Gary was a member of the United States Coast Guard from Nov. 1953 to Oct. 1957 and served in the United States Army Reserve for 30 years.
Gary is survived by his wife Patricia Genners of Kansas City, Mo.; son Randall (wife Caroline) of Jacksonville, Fla.; daughters, Kristy (husband David) Curry of Lake Lotawana, Mo., and Patricia (husband Darrin) Ingram of Kansas City, Mo.; grandchildren, Christopher, Nicholas, Adam and Paul Genners, all of Jacksonville, Fla., Lisa Genners of Omaha, Neb., and Rachael and Brooke Ingram, both of Kansas City, Mo.; and sister June Negley of Des Moines.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, James, Sidney, Arthur and Jack.
