Vera Combs, 102, of Redding died May 18, 2012, at Mount Ayr Health Care Center.

Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 23, at Redding United Methodist Church with the Rev. Skip Rushing officiating. Burial will be in Redding Cemetery. Open visitation will be noon to 8 p.m. Tuesday with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. at Watson-Armstrong Funeral Home, 205 West Monroe St., Mount Ayr. Vera Combs, daughter of Maude Nora (Armstrong) and Carl Eugene Olney, was born Aug. 8, 1909, on a farm south of Mount Ayr.

Vera graduated from Redding High School in 1927.

On Jan. 12, 1940, Vera married Harley L. Combs in Troy, Kan.

Vera was a homemaker. She became a clerk at Redding Post Office in March 1951 and postmaster in August 1959. She retired Nov. 5, 1976.

Vera was a member of Redding Methodist Church for more than 70 years.

Vera is survived by her children, Ed (wife June) Combs of Des Moines, Lillie Rinehart of Mount Ayr, Helen Combs of Redding and Vance (wife June) Combs of Cape Girardeau, Mo.; grandchildren, Bonnie Majors, Stephen Combs, Jimmy Williams, Mary Jo Grinnell, Jo Anne Branon, Virginia Combs, Carl Eugene Combs, Jeffery Rinehart, Lori Wimer, Amy Webber, Cheryl Misel, Amanda Rothanzl and Barbara Ray; great-grandchildren, Joshua, Summer, Carson, Tyler, Amanda, Shawn, Heather, Devin, Jacob, Jeremy, Justina, Brooke, Sidney, Zachery, Ryan, Becca, Dylan, Trevor, Joseph, Katie, Ali and Becky; great-great-grandchildren, Claire, Vaughn, Gwenth, Mercy, Judah, Destiny, Lanigan, Ryland, Justin and August; and brothers-in-law, James Williams of Harlingen, Texas, and Gabe Boeckman of Lincoln, Neb.

Vera was preceded in death by her parents; husband in August 1992; daughters, Katie Williams in May 2001 and Jean Boeckman in January 2008; son-in-law Hollis Rinehart; brothers, Clifton, Robert and Carl E. Jr; and sisters, Avis, Mary and Opal.
