DES MOINES — Corning senior Caitlyn Stroud fought through extreme pain to win both the 100 meters and 200 meters in Class 1A at the Coed State Track Meet here Saturday.

Stroud has been battling an ankle injury for about three weeks, and has also fought through a painful back injury.

But that didn't stop the senior, who wanted to end her career with a bang.

"I can't even describe it," Stroud said. "I've worked so hard for it, and I've been dealing with so many injuries."

Stroud, who won the 100 meters last year and placed second in the 200 meters, wasn't even sure she'd be able to compete at the state meet a few weeks ago.

"I saw a doctor for my foot, and he told me I'm not running, so I looked at him and said 'I'm going to another doctor then,'" Stroud said. "I deal with it (the pain), because this is what I love and I want to do it for four more years. It feels good to know, I haven't even been training for three weeks. It's nice to know I could do it."

Stroud ran 12.75 in the 100 meters and 26.16 in the 200 meters. Murray sophomore Kate Patton finished sixth in the 100 meters with her time of 13.25.

Mount Ayr junior Braydee Poore also returned to the 2012 state meet looking to defend his state championship in the high jump.

Competing in Class 1A after winning Class 2A last year, Poore placed fourth by clearing 6-04.

"Very disappointed in myself," Poore said. "At 6-06, I don’t even know what I touched it with on my second jump. I knew 6-08 was going to be the height, or 6-06. I didn’t even feel it. It just fell off."

Mount Ayr head coach Brad Elliott said this experience will give Poore strong motivation to come back next year and win another state championship.

Poore placed eighth in the 110 hurdles with a time of 16.58. He qualified sixth for the finals with a new personal-best time of 15.68.

The Raiders also had placewinners in Jacob Sobotka in the 200 meters and Dustin Pritchett in the discus.

Sobotka finished eighth in the 200 with a time of 24.27.

Pritchett finished seventh in the discus with a toss of 154-03.

Corning's Tiffany Shepherd placed seventh in the 800 meters, running a time of 2:25.39.
