Helen Nelson, 76, of Orange City, formerly of Lenox, died April 14, 2012, at Orange City Area Health System Long Term Care Facility, after a battle with cancer.
There will be a prayer service 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 18, at the Christian Church – Disciples of Christ in Lenox. The Rev. Timothy Maxa will officiate. Interment will be in North Fairview Cemetery in Lenox. Visitation with the family present will be 5 to 7 p.m. today at Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City. Memorials may be directed to the June E. Helen Audna Nelson, daughter of Dorothy (Eckler) and R. Willis Stream, was born Jan. 31, 1936, in Lenox. She was raised in southwest Iowa, where she attended country schools and Van Wert School. She graduated from Lenox High School.
On Nov. 18, 1956, Helen married Dale O. Nelson in Lenox. They made their home in Lenox, where she was a homemaker and cook at Lenox Community Schools for 37 years.
On Jan. 22, 1993, Dale died in Lenox.
In 1996, Helen moved to Orange City.
Helen was a member of Lenox Christian Church, where she had been active in the Christian Women’s Fellowship. She was also a school volunteer.
Helen is survived by her daughter Kim Bihrer and granddaughter Keatyn Bihrer, both of Orange City; brothers and their wives, Lloyd “Bud” and Shirley Stream of Monmouth, Ill., and Howard “Skip” and Jannie Stream of Harvest, Ala.; sisters-in-law, Evelyn Stream of Le Mars, Betty Yount of Monticello and Lela (husband Paul) Duke of Gresham, Ore.; and special friends, Beverly Stream and Charles Bugenhagen.
In addition to her parents and husband, Helen was preceded in death by son-in-law Steven C. Bihrer and brother Harold Stream.
