Rita Renay Campbell, 39, 505 W. Spencer St., was charged 10:45 a.m. Sunday at the intersection of Russell and Lincoln streets on a Union County warrant for third-degree theft.

According to a Creston police report, Campbell purchased items from Fareway, 105 E. Adams St., July 16 with a check in the amount of $33.05. The check was returned from Great Western Bank marked insufficient funds. A 10-day notice was served Aug. 17. No arrangements have been made for payment of the check. Campbell has previous theft convictions in Union County.

Campbell was released on $2,000 bond.

Brian Andrew Kotalik, 37, Port Richey, Fla., was charged with violation of a protective order 1:50 p.m. Sunday at the Holiday Motel, 800 S. Walnut St.

According to a Creston police report, officers were dispatched to room No. 9 at the Holiday Motel from a caller who said her sister was in a physical altercation with a male. Kotalik and a woman were were identified as the only occupants in the room. Officers determined there was a valid protective order preventing Kotalik from threatening, harassing or following the woman. A witness gave a statement saying Kotalik threatened the woman.

Kotalik is being held in the Union County Jail on $300 bond.

Jeffrey Todd King, 46, 226 S. Peterson St., was charged with operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated, second offense, possession of marijuana and possession of paraphernalia.

According to a Creston police report, officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for a traffic violation. They observed King had bloodshot and watery eyes and an odor of an alcoholic beverage. King didn’t give a valid breath during a field sobriety test and refused testing on the DataMaster. At the Union County Law Enforcement Center, officers conducted a search of King. In the front, upper pocket of his coat, they located a metal pipe commonly used to smoke marijuana. The pipe had marijuana residue inside of it.

King was released on $2,000 bond.
