Panther bowlers win tourney titles

A large crowd turned out for the season-opening Creston/O-M Bowling Invitational Tuesday at Panther Lanes and the home team didn't disappoint, as both the boys and girls claimed team championships.

"It was a packed house for our opening meet. More people were at this meet than I have seen in a long time," Creston/O-M boys coach Jon Thomson said. "It was great to see parents and students supporting the area bowling programs."

The Creston/O-M boys won the team title by nearly 200 points over runner-up Clarke, 2587-2395. Mount Ayr finished third and Lenox was last out of six teams.

Chantz Davidson led the Panthers with a championship score of 411. Teammate Colton Knipfer was a close second with 405. Ethan Pollock of Mount Ayr placed fourth with a score of 371.

Other Panther bowlers were Josh Sawtelle (334), Kenny Wynn (285), Darin Hatfield (267) and Austin Burnell (256).

"We had some kids really step up and fill some spots in the lineup," Thomson said.

The Panther girls finished the day with a score of 2154, to win by more than 200 pins over runner-up Lenox's total of 1921. Mount Ayr finished last in the six-team field with a 1344.

Anna Wilson paced the Panthers with a third-place score of 309. Shaylen Kipp was fourth with a 308 and Devon Eddy placed fifth with a 295.
