Lottie Schaffer, 91, of Corning died Nov. 22, 2011, at Corning Nursing & Rehab.

Lottie Veronica Nelson, daughter of Nellie (Bronner) and Albin Nelson, was born Nov. 8, 1920, near Quincy. She was the granddaughter of Icarian Colonists Michael and Veronica Bronner. Her mother died when Lottie was 8.

On Jan. 31, 1942, Lottie married LaVerne D. Schaffer in Maryville, Mo. The family made their home in Brooks, until moving into Corning in 1959.

Lottie was a homemaker. When her children were older, she worked at Lauvstad Drug Store. She also did daycare in her home.

Lottie was an active volunteer with Rose Ann Auxiliary for many years.

Lottie is survived by her daughter Diane Weston (special friend Todd Mullen) of Corning; son LaVerne D. “Bud” Schaffer Jr. (wife Ramona I. Lynam) of Creston; grandson Richard Weston (fiance Brandee Harrington) and her daughter Christina Hermanson of Charles City; granddaughter Michelle (husband Tony) Weston Vargas of Omaha, Neb.; grandson Mark A. Schaffer of Astoria, N.Y.; Vargas great-grandchildren, Gwendolyn, Esmeralda, Samantha and Samuel; sister-in-law Almeda Eggleston; former daughter-in-law Alice Schaffer and special niece Ruth Ann Nelson, all of Corning; many other relatives and friends.

Lottie was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother Chester B. Nelson; son-in-law George Weston; many brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.
