Alfred Arroyo, 85, of Creston died Oct. 9, 2011, at Crest Haven Care Centre.

Private services were held today at Abundant Life Church. The Rev. Doug Brunell officiated the service. Burial was in Graceland Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Brain Injury Association of America, Iowa Chapter. Online condolences may be left at www.powersfh.com.

Alfred Arroyo, son of Carmen (Soler) and Fermin Arroyo, was born June 6, 1926, in New York City, N.Y.

Alfred graduated from high school in New York and attended the City College of New York for two years.

He served as a Merchant Marine the end of WWII.

On March 17, 1967, Alfred married Judy Marie (Seley) in Brooklyn, N.Y.

Alfred worked for Curtis Right as a machine operator in New Jersey, while living in New York. He worked for Griscombe Products Incorporated as a microfilm processor and later for Keystone Electronics as a salesman handling electronic hardware orders.

Alfred also worked for Pickwick Papers in sales and inventory.

Alfred studied singing with Mabel Horsey and Steve Allen.

He had his own business importing products from abroad before moving to North Carolina in 1998 and Creston in 2004.

Alfred was a member of Riverside Church, Advertising Club of New York and Brooklyn Heights Association.

Alfred is survived by his wife Judy Arroyo of Creston; sister Naomi (husband Julius) Merrifield of Cincinnati, Ohio; and five nieces and nephews.

Alfred was preceded in death by his parents; brother and sister-in-law, Jim and Nati Arroyo and sister Mary Arroyo.
