Harvey Briles, 82, of Creston died May 7, 2011, at Greater Regional Hospice Home.
A celebration of life memorial service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 10, at the Chicken Inn, two miles west of Creston. The Rev. Diana Clark will officiate. A graveside committal service was held 11 a.m. today at Maple Hill Cemetery north of Cromwell with military rites by Williamson American Legion Post 719 and Theodore J. Martens V.F.W. Harvey Louise Briles, son of Doris Irene (Simpson) and Edward Louis Briles, was born Feb. 23, 1929, west of Prescott.
Harvey graduated from Prescott High School in 1947. He worked at the Corning Sale Barn through his senior year, and later owned and operated it.
In 1947, Harvey began working nights for the railroad. He also started the auction business with his father and brother in 1950. They managed many sales for many years.
In 1950, Harvey married Doris White. They later divorced.
In March 1951, Harvey entered the United States Army during the Korean Conflict.
Harvey lived in Creston and moved to a farm south of Creston in 1970.
In 1974, Harvey purchased the Chicken Inn.
In 1980, Harvey married Patricia (O’Riley) Bantz. They lived and worked in the Creston area.
Harvey retired from the railroad in 1991.
Harvey was a member of the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and Eagles Lodge, both of Creston; he was a former member of Elks Lodge and Prescott American Legion.
Harvey is survived by his wife Pat Briles of Creston; daughters, Sandy Manrose of Papillion, Neb., Cathy Hayes (fiancé Jerry Balius) and Debbie (husband Kevin) Glick, all of Creston; son Jeff (wife Brenda) Briles of Perry; stepdaughter Sandy (husband John) Schulte of Maryville, Mo.; stepson John Bantz (friend Paula Zillmer) of Glenwood; grandchildren, Ryan Manrose (fiancée Julie Kroeger), Shawn Manrose, Jason (wife Wendy) Hayes, Nicki Hayes, Chad and Cody Means and Davin, Larissa and Beau Briles; five step-grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and three step-great-grandchildren.
Harvey was preceded in death by his parents and brother James Briles.
