Lucile John, 87, of Lenox died April 25, 2011, at Lenox Care Center

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday, April 29, at Ritchie Funeral Home, 124 S. Main St., Lenox. Visitation will be 3 to 7 p.m. Thursday with family present 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be in North Fairview Cemetery in Lenox. Memorials may be given in Lucile's name. Online condolences may be left at www.ritchiefuneralhome.com.

Nora Lucile (Hawkins) John, daughter of Bessie (Thompson) and William Hawkins, was born Feb. 1, 1924, in Floris.

She grew up in the Floris area attending rural schools and graduated from Bloomfield High School in 1942.

On Aug. 8, 1942, Lucile married Lyle John in Memphis, Mo.

Lyle entered the United States Army and Lucile lived in Ottumwa. They moved to Bloomfield before moving to Prescott in 1949. They later moved to Lenox in 1950, where Lyle ran Eclipse Lumber. The lumber yard burned down, and the family moved to Fairfield for several months until they returned to Lenox to run the Country Boys Lumber Company, later purchasing the business in 1969.

In addition to raising her family, Lucile worked at Lenox Care Center for more than 25 years and owned John’s Liquor Store for a number of years.

Lucile was a Cub Scout Den Mother and member of Lenox American Legion Auxiliary.

Lucile is survived by her children, Steve John of Lenox, Linda (husband Jack) Harbin of Lenox/Corning areas, Danny John of Coralville and Roger John (fiancé Mary Halligan) of Odessa, Mo.; sister Gladys (husband Pat) Karr of Albia; 11 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; many other relatives and friends.

Lucile was preceded in death by her parents; husband Aug. 19, 2002; three brothers and five sisters.
