No citations were issued after an accident 5:05 p.m. Wednesday at the intersections of Highways 34 and 169.
According to a Afton police report, Jared Caviness, 20, of Orient, driving a 2008 Ford, was stopped at the intersection’s stop sign attempting to turn west on Highway 34. Caviness’ vehicle pulled into the path of a 2005 Ford driven east on Highway 34 by Amber Watkins, 19, 402 S. Vine St. Caviness’ vehicle broadsided Watkins’ vehicle. Caviness said he didn’t see Watkins’ vehicle because of other traffic turning from Highway 34 onto Highway 169.
Afton Police Chief John Coulter noted airbag deployment and seat belt usage prevented serious injury or death to the passengers and drivers of both vehicles.
Damage estimates are $3,000 to both vehicles.
