An Afton man was sentenced to five years in a state prison June 4 after previously pleading guilty to his fourth offense of failure to register as a sex offender.

According to a Creston police report, Chancey Dean Vanderpluym, 25, was charged Jan. 30 when officers searched the home of Chelsie Liesner, 402 S. Pine St., after receiving unconfirmed reports that Vanderpluym was residing there.

Bradley Ray Scadden, 21, 401 N. Vine St., could avoid prison time for his role in a December break-in and January drug bust.

Scadden was sentenced to three years probation June 11 on charges of third-degree burglary and possession of a precursor of a controlled substance, both Class D felonies. An original charge of conspiracy to manufacture a schedule II controlled substance, a Class C felony, was amended to the lesser offense of possession of a precursor of a controlled substance.

James Jack Clark, 24, 807 W. Mills St., received a two-year suspended jail sentence June 11 after being found guilty of having sex with a 16-year-old girl.

But, Clark could avoid jail time by instead completing two years of probation.
