Brooks earns ICCAC Athlete of the Week

Jaxon Brooks has been making waves as a standout player for the Southwestern Spartans baseball team. He was named ICCAC Athlete of the Week for his accomplishments on the diamond.

In recent matchups, Brooks showcased his prowess both at bat and in the field, contributing significantly to the team’s success.

Last week, Brooks played a pivotal role in Southwestern’s impressive 3-1 record. As a sophomore third baseman, he demonstrated exceptional offensive capabilities, tallying seven RBI while maintaining a batting average of .400 (6-15). His performance at the plate was crucial, reaching base nine times with a combination of two doubles, three walks, a home run, and three singles. Brooks also crossed the plate five times, solidifying his position as a key offensive asset for the Spartans.

Defensively, Brooks exhibited reliability and skill, committing just one error across four games while recording two putouts and two assists. His consistent performance in the field contributed to the team’s overall success and showcased his all-around abilities as a player.

Brooks’s impact extends beyond last week’s games, as evidenced by his season statistics. With a batting average of .300, one home run, and 11 RBI in 16 games, he has proven himself as a reliable offensive threat throughout the season. Additionally, his defensive contributions, including 24 putouts and 10 assists, underscore his versatility and commitment to excellence on the field.

“Brooks was a main contributor to Southwestern’s 3-1 record last week,” Coach Chris Piperno said. “Brooks also scored five different times last week, as he was the heart of the Spartans’ offense. On the defensive side, Brooks was rolling as well.”
