More on health-care reform

From Margaret Turk

Creston

The president and Congress would like to believe that we have forgotten or accepted that horrendous unconstitutional healthcare reform bill they passed. Every day that passes brings a new revelation about this bill and the consequences to which we will all be subjected.

They intentionally left out the “DOC Fix” that would have fixed the impending 21 percent cut to physicians who treat Medicare patients, because they knew it would put the cost more than a trillion dollars. They fixed that later with a patch and hoped the public wouldn’t figure out what they had done.

Many folks who chose conservative insurance plans have found out that those plans will not fit the criteria laid out in the bill, and they will therefore lose their insurance. The insurance companies and drug companies that went to bed with this administration, because they thought they would get special protection, are going to find themselves out in the cold.

Don’t be looking for any new cancer drugs to be developed, as there will be no incentive to find them. An oncology nurse reported that the two best drugs they use will not even be allowed under Obamacare as they are too expensive. Don’t expect to pay personally for these drugs either. The rule is “if everyone can’t have it, no one will have it.” Those of you who have survived cancer, but still get periodic CT scans and MRI to detect recurrence, those will undoubtedly go away too. You will have to start showing symptoms to get attention. Even then the “Death Panels” will determine if you are worth saving depending on your age.

Consider that soon 70 percent of Americans will be over 65 years of age. Do you really think the 30 percent being taxed to support this failing and bankrupt system will vote to spend the resources to save an older person’s life? With all the new taxes buried in this bill, there is even a 3.8 percent sales tax on all real estate transactions.

While the administration was hoodwinking Congress into passing this bill, they used the World Health Organizations (WHO) rankings of healthcare in the world that ranked the US at 37th. Did you know that the WHO does not take into consideration cancer survival rates or technical advances in determining these rankings? The US leads every nation in these categories. The main criteria WHO uses are cost and availability. Some countries that have literally no healthcare, too few doctors, hospitals and nurses, rank above the US because what they do have is free and available to everyone.

If England’s national health is so great why is it that of 15 percent of the people diagnosed with diabetes get treatment within six months and in the US 93 percent get treatment within that time frame?

Ninety percent of seniors who need a hip replacement get them in the US within six months. In England, only 15 percent get them within that time period.

Most of us have not forgotten this government takeover of the greatest healthcare system in the world and will to work to elect representatives who pledge to repeal this abomination. The rest of you should wake up now, before it is too late and make your voices heard. We will remember in November.

Starting school on Aug. 23, or earlier, is a good idea.
I agree, it prevents school from lasting too far into June.
I disagree, it is too early, especially if it starts before the end of the Iowa State Fair.
School should be year-round
