FARGO, N.D. — Jake Marlin’s hopes of making the finals of the Cadet Freestyle Nationals came down to one match here Thursday night.

The Creston freshman entered his final match of the day with a 6-1 record at 140 pounds. Because of a loss earlier in the day to Alex Abono of California, Marlin needed to pin undefeated Tim Fox of Ohio to earn a spot in today’s finals. A win by anything other than a fall and Marlin would wrestle in the third-place match and Fox would make the finals. A loss and Marlin would finish third in his pool behind Fox and Abono and drop down to the fifth-place match.

In the third period, Marlin added a takedown in the final seconds for a 6-0 technical fall victory, but Fox still took the spot in today’s finals.

Starting school on Aug. 23, or earlier, is a good idea.
I agree, it prevents school from lasting too far into June.
I disagree, it is too early, especially if it starts before the end of the Iowa State Fair.
School should be year-round
