Enabling organization

Creston resident Jesse Bolinger currently uses a white cane to help him navigate the city’s streets, but it’s his experiences with a guide dog and adaptive technology that led to the start of TechiePaws Inc. Bolinger, who is partially sighted, is executive director of the nonprofit organization that aims to help those with disabilities pay veterinary expenses and acquire technology to make everyday life a bit easier. Jesse Bolinger knows the important roles canines and technology can play in bettering the lives of people with disabilities. He’s experienced it firsthand.

Born with hydrocephalus, a condition where excess cerebrospinal fluid caused brain swelling and damaged his optic nerve, Bolinger has been partially sighted his whole life.

Growing up, the 27-year-old Creston native utilized equipment like video-magnification systems to help him read, but still relied on more primitive items like cardstock to help determine directions.

Not to be held back, Bolinger pursued a college degree and graduated from Graceland University with a Master of Science in nonprofit management.

Starting school on Aug. 23, or earlier, is a good idea.
I agree, it prevents school from lasting too far into June.
I disagree, it is too early, especially if it starts before the end of the Iowa State Fair.
School should be year-round
