Opinions vary on Legislature meeting deadline

By LARRY PETERSON - CNA assistant managing editor lpeterson@crestonnews.com

Is the Iowa Legislature on track for an early adjournment as planned?

It depends who you talk to, as area lawmakers gave differing opinions when contacted by the News Advertiser.

“We are right on track,” said Rep. Mike Reasoner, D-Creston. “Our goal was to do the majority of policy work in the first portion, and the last two or three weeks focus on the budget itself. If you had asked me a couple weeks ago, I’d have said we’re not going to make the March 31 target date. Now, I think we have a chance of coming close.”

Sen. Kim Reynolds, R-Osceola, is skeptical.
