City offers big money to low-income homebuyers

By TYLER ELLYSON — CNA staff reporter tellyson@crestonnews.com

A slight tweak in Creston’s Neighborhood Stabilization Project (NSP) plans means money could be available for low- to moderate-income individuals looking to build a new home in the city.

Creston City Council approved the exploration of an idea Monday that would provide $100,000 in financial assistance for the construction of two homes under NSP guidelines. Previously, this money was to be allocated for the construction of a home by the city on lots at 308 and 310 N. Division St.

Under the change, low- to moderate-income individuals who meet the financial guidelines and are approved for an appropriate loan would be given about $50,000 each for use on down-payment assistance and mortgage subsidization.
