Warm weather unveils worn-out roads

During an already tiresome and budget-busting season battling record snowfalls, those charged with keeping Union County’s roads maintained aren’t catching any breaks as the temperatures rise.

With most area roads now visible and free from winter’s tight grip, potholes, ruts and mud patches are appearing across the county.

“Spring is always a struggle,” said Union County Engineer Steve Akes. “No matter what kind of winter you have, you’re always going to have a lot more maintenance come spring.”
