A first for Mount Ayr

DES MOINES — Mount Ayr post player Claire Andresen didn’t let the big, incandescent lights shining down onto the court at Wells Fargo Arena or the importance of Mount Ayr’s first tournament appearance in 12 years affect her Monday afternoon in the Class 1A state quarterfinals.

The sophomore just played basketball.

Like she was playing pick-up basketball in her driveway, Andresen — normally an inside threat, drained jump shots from the outside. She also did her work on the inside, scoring 10 points in the opening half against North Sentral Kossuth.
