Larry Freihage, 76, of Ellston passed away Feb. 12, 2020, at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines. Open visitation will be held at Armstrong Funeral Home in Mount Ayr Friday, Feb. 14, 2020, 12 to 8 p.m. with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral service will be 10 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 15, 2020, at the funeral home. The son of Grant and Margaret (Bevins) Freihage, Larry was born April 16, 1943, north of Afton in Union County.
Larry was united in marriage to Reta Brown March 29, 1964, in Beaconsfield. Larry farmed for most of his life and he had a strong work ethic.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife Reta Freihage of Ellston; four children: Carmen (Brian) Foland of Murray, Tracy Freihage of Ellston, Janell (Fred) Staats of Ellston and Toni (Nate) Taylor of Grand River; grandchildren: Eric (Melinda) Foland, Bruce Foland, Dawn Petrik, Andy (Blythe) Freihage, Luria (Michael) Staats and Grant Staats; great-grandchildren: Trevor, Daniel, Rylee, Owen, Mason and Reece; and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; grandson Robert Keith Foland; siblings: Helen (Paul) Husted, Robert “Bud” (Betty) Freihage and Dean Freihage; sisters-in-law Joy and LaRetta; brothers-in-law Carrol and Marvin.
