Darrell Eugene Kingery, 93, of Creston passed away Feb. 11, 2020, at EveryStep Hospice in Creston. Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 15, 2020, at Powers Funeral Home in Creston. Pastor Jim Morris will officiate. Burial will be in St. Edward's Cemetery in Afton. The son of Roy and Gladys Nauman Kingery, Darrell was born June 21,1926, on a farm in Highland Township. After living in Dodge Township much of his life, he graduated from Afton High School in 1944. He and Helen Fluckey were married in 1946.
Darrell was a farmer all his life, but had employment off the farm for most of those years as well. He worked first for the Afton Creamery, then as a technician for the Soil Conservation Service in Creston, and finally at Green Valley Chemical plant near Creston.
He was a rural school director and a 4-H leader. He enjoyed travel and helped to care for elderly relatives. After living on a farm not far from his birthplace since 1952, he moved to Homestead Assisted Living in 2015.
Survivors include three children: Dennis (wife Karlene) of Omaha, Nebraska, Jean Ann (Ronnie) Fregia of Orange, Texas, and Scott (wife Catherine) of Jefferson; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. His wife, parents and brother Harold preceded him in death.
