Boys rankings released

The new Iowa boys high school basketball rankings were released Monday with a corrected ranking for Mount Ayr. After speculation and confusion in the rankings referring to its class, Mount Ayr has been correctly slotted in the top-10 of Class 1A and not Class 2A.

The now 11-0 Raiders are ranked No. 9 in the class by the Associated Press. Fellow Pride of Iowa foe Martensdale-St. Marys is ranked No. 10, tied with Highland for the final slot.

The leader in Class 1A is Easton Valley. In Class 2A, the leader is West Sioux with Treynor slotting in at No. 3 in the class.

In Class 3A, Norwalk is on top in a class that has five separate schools receiving votes for the top slot. Winterset is down from its previous rank of four to No. 6. Glenwood, previously unranked, is now No. 9.

Harlan and Denison-Schleswig received votes for the top-10 in Class 3A.

In Class 4A, Waukee is still on top. Council Bluffs Lincoln is unranked, but is receiving votes.

Think Pink games moved

Due to the weather, the Southwestern Spartan men’s and women’s basketball games scheduled for Wednesday night (Jan. 22nd) were postponed.

The games against Little Priest Tribal College are now scheduled for Monday, January 27th, with the women tipping off at 5:30 p.m. and the men to follow at 7 p.m.

The games will be a part of Southwestern’s ‘Think Pink Games’ and will include a chili contest from 5 to 6 p.m. in the upstairs part of the Student Center. Fans and participants can vote for their favorite of sampled chilis.

After tip off, Southwestern will give away prizes and distribute cancer awareness information (provided by Greater Regional Health). Spectators are requested to wear pink for the games.

All proceeds Monday from the Think Pink event will go to the Check the Girls Foundation.
