Seymour 60, Murray 38

SEYMOUR – Murray (1-3) dropped a 60-38 game against Seymour (3-2) Tuesday night.

Things were tight in the first half. The Lady Mustangs kept the game in reach, trailing 12-10 after the first quarter and 26-20 at halftime.

Murray’s offense didn’t gain enough steam to keep up from the six point deficit. An 18 point second half was the dagger for the Lady Mustangs as Seymour put up 32 points.

“(It’s) very frustrating that we can stay with teams for a while and then just fall apart. Destiny (Ashby) is showing signs of improvement on the inside,” said Murray coach Jerry Shields.

Ashby and Bailey Frederick were two double digit scorers for the Lady Mustangs with 10 points each.

O-M 51, Ankeny Christian 30

ANKENY – Orient-Macksburg (2-3) picked up an early season road win against Ankeny Christian (0-4) 51-30 Tuesday night.

O-M took the early lead with a 12-6 first quarter. The second quarter was a stalemate at nine points. The Bulldogs took a six point lead into the second half and extended that with a strong defensive start in the third quarter.

O-M held the Eagles to four points in the third quarter while the offense continued to consistently produce, with 14 points. That was all the Bulldogs needed with a 16-11 fourth quarter to end the game.

Kaela Eslinger scored 27 points on four 3-pointers to lead O-M. Hailey Johnson scored 11 points with six coming in the first half.

Martensdale-St. Marys 80, EU 30

MARTENSDALE – East Union (1-2) fell in blowout fashion against Martensdale-St. Marys (6-1) 80-30 Tuesday night.

The Blue Devils were in a groove, playing their seventh game of the season while the Eagles were on their third. Martensdale-St. Marys showed rhythm with a 25-3 start in the first quarter.

East Union was able to bounce back in the second quarter, scoring 11 points, but the Eagles still trailed big at halftime, 42-14. The Eagles fought back with 16 points in the second half.

Despite the fight, the deficit was too great to come back from as the Blue Devils scored 38 points in the second half to finish the game at 80-30.

Chloe Kerrigan scored 11 points to lead East Union. Kaylin Lack followed closely with 10 points and 10 rebounds to finish with a double-double.

Diagonal 49, Mormon Trail 36

DIAGONAL – Diagonal (2-5) bounced back after four consecutive losses against Mormon Trail (0-3) with a 49-36 win Tuesday night.

After a tough four game stretch for the Maroonettes, Diagonal didn’t bring that into the first half of the game against Mormon Trail. The game was close, but Diagonal took a three point lead 23-20 into halftime.

The Maroonettes did enough to keep the lead with a 13-12 third quarter, but it was the defense that kept Mormon Trail at bay. Diagonal held Mormon Trail to four points in the fourth quarter and ultimately extended their lead to 49-36 and snap the four game losing streak.

Erin Sobotka led the Maroonettes with scoring at 15 points. Alaina Whittington scored 14, and Taylor Lumbard scored seven with 15 rebounds.

Seymour 57, Diagonal 26

SEYMOUR – Diagonal dropped its fourth straight game in a 57-26 loss against Seymour Monday night.

Seymour took an early lead with 19 points in the first quarter to take a 19-5 lead. The Maroonettes struggled to score the ball, putting up seven points in the first half to trail 22-7. Things turned around in the second half for the Diagonal offense, outscoring Seymour 26-18.

Despite the offensive surge in the second half, it wasn’t enough for a comeback as Diagonal fell 57-26.

Sobotka led in scoring with 15 points and 10 steals to complete the double-double. Alaina Whittington had 14 points and Lumbard had 15 rebounds as the team leader.
