Brennen Normand has joined the Creston News Advertiser staff as sports reporter, covering sports for the CNA, Osceola Sentinel-Tribune, Adair County Free Press and Fontanelle Observer.
Normand, 22, is from Gonzales, Louisiana. He comes to the CNA to fulfill an ambition he’s had since he was a child.
“This was my first opportunity to get into journalism out of college, something I’ve wanted to do since I was 9,” Normand said.
Normand graduated in May 2019 from Louisiana State University with a degree in mass communications with a concentration in journalism. While at LSU, he worked on the school newspaper, the Reveille, covering LSU men’s and women’s tennis and baseball — the No. 1 ranked collegiate baseball team team in the preseason.
He also played baseball and football in high school.
Normand started as sports reporter Nov. 18. He is single and living in Creston.
He said he likes Creston so far. It fits with his hobbies of hunting and fishing, which he grew up doing with his parents, grandparents and uncles.
“I’m an outdoorsy kid from Louisiana,” Normand said. “I love to fish and hunt.”
This will be the first year since he was seven that he will miss the annual after Thanksgiving fishing trip with his family.
Normand said he is not looking forward to the winter in Creston.
“I’ve seen snow three times at home,” he said. “It’s going to be a major adjustment.”
