Minors involved in serious country collision

A 16-year-old Afton resident was transported by air ambulance to Methodist Hospital in Des Moines after an accident 8:23 p.m. Thursday.

According to an Iowa State Patrol report, a 16-year-old from Creston driving a 2004 Nissan Xterra west on 190th Street and a 17-year-old from Afton driving a 1998 4 Runner north on Jaguar Avenue both entered an uncontrolled intersection at the same time. The 4 Runner struck the driver’s side door of the Xterra which caused it to roll onto its passenger side. The Xterra was thrown into a utility pole on the northwest corner of the intersection, where live power lines fell on to it. The 4 Runner came to a rest in a ditch at the intersection.

Aside from the juvenile who was airlifted, four other juvenile occupants were transported by ambulance to the hospital. The status of their injuries have not been released and estimated damage and citations have not been reported.
