William Glen Fils, 88, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 19, 2019, at Greenfield Rehabilitation & Healthcare Center.

Services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 23, 2019 at Pearson Family Funeral Service & Cremation Center, 809 W. Montgomery St. Rev. Tony Thurston, pastor of the First Christian Church will officiate. A public viewing will be held 3 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. The family will receive friends 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday. Bill was born in the family’s Spaulding Township home, March 16, 1931. He attended Spaulding Township rural school through eighth grade, then attended Creston High School, graduating with the class of 1949. Following graduation, Bill co-farmed with his brother, Richard until enlisting in the United States Army where he served two years stationed in Alaska. Upon his return to civilian life, Bill resumed farming.

On Nov. 15, 1959, Bill married Patricia Janet Bogar at the St. John’s United Church of Christ in Creston. They made their home at 216 Myrtle St. where he resided until becoming ill. Daughter Melissa was joyfully welcomed to the family in 1964. Bill and Pat recently celebrated 60 years of marriage.

Bill continued his farming career on the Waltersdorf Farm, four and a half miles south on the Pole Road. Later, he became a substitute rural mail carrier out of Afton becoming a regular carrier a few years later. Bill retired from the postal service in 1998.

Bill and Pat became members of the First Christian Church — Disciples of Christ, where he served as both an usher and a diaconate. Bill was a faithful member until he could no longer attend due to his failing health.

Bill is survived by his wife Patricia, daughter Mellissa, and sister Margaret Carlson of Ohio.

He was preceded in death by his parents Clarence and Rose (Davis) Fils, brother Richard Fils, and his in-laws Daisy and Ralph Lauer.
