Genealogical seminar to be held at Gibson Memorial Library

The Union County Genealogical Society will host its last 2019 First Saturday Seminar, Saturday, Dec. 5 in the genealogy room at the Gibson Memorial Library, 200 West Howard Street. Genealogist Dennis Allen of Genealogical Treasurers will give the presentation RootsMagic Family Tree Software.  RootsMagic is an award-winning genealogy software program suitable for beginners or experienced professionals.

Allen is a longtime firefighter for the city of Des Moines, but his passion is all things genealogy. He speaks on genealogy subjects throughout Iowa and the Midwest. With his partner, Cris Nagle, he has spent years researching, gathering and digitizing cemetery and funeral home records across Iowa. They have helped numerous cemeteries bring records up to date. Genealogical Treasurers offers a searchable database, including history of cemeteries and funeral homes through time.

An active volunteer at the Iowa Genealogical Society Library, Allen provides leadership for the Des Moines Central Iowa RootsMagic User Group which meet at the Iowa Genealogical Society Library, 628 East Grand Avenue, Des Moines on the fourth Saturday of each month from 10 a.m. to noon.

Following the seminar, guests are invited to receive assistance with any research questions that they may have from volunteers of UCGS. The seminars are open to the public at a nominal fee which can be paid on-line or at the door. Pre-registration is requested for planning purposes for the speaker either on-line or by calling 515.868.1415.
