Volleyball postseason pairings announced

The Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union released the regional brackets for the 2019 high school volleyball postseason Tuesday night.

Below are area matchups and their implications in the respective bracket.

Class 3A

Creston will see a familiar face from down the road in Clarke, Osceola to open play in Region 3. As of Tuesday night the Panthers sit at 9-13 (1-7 in Hawkeye 10 play) and Clarke is 1-11 (0-4 in South Central Conference play).

The Lady Indians have not faced Creston this season.

Play between Creston and Clarke is set to start at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 23. in Creston.

Winner of the matchup will face the winner of Class 3A No. 11 Des Moines Christian (18-2, 6-0) and Saydel’s (3-15, 0-6) game, which will be happening simultaneously at Des Moines Christian.

Class 2A

Familiar rivals Mount Ayr and Nodaway Valley have been paired up together in the first round of the Class 2A Region 5 bracket.

The Wolverines and Raiderettes have seen each other once this season, a tilt on Sept. 10 which ended in Nodaway Valley going home a 3-0 winner (25-14, 25-19, 25-15).

The Wolverines sit at 15-5 (4-1) and Mount Ay is 11-12 (0-4) as of Tuesday night. Game time in Mount Ayr is scheduled for Monday, Oct. 28 at 7 p.m.

Winner will face a combination of either West Central Valley, Panorama or Earlham. WCV plays Panorama Tuesday, Oct. 22 at 7 p.m. while Earlham awaits the winner on a bye. The next matchup for the play-in winner and Earlham will occur simultaneously with Mount Ayr and Nodaway Valley’s game.

Class 1A

Orient-Macksburg (4-9, 3-2) open Class 1A Region 2 play with CAM (6-17, 0-7) at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 22 at CAM. The Bulldogs have not seen CAM this season, but will see them Saturday in its home tournament.

Winner of the O-M and CAM game will face the winner of Riverside and Exira-EHK on Monday Oct. 28 at 7 p.m.

Lenox (14-8, 2-2) and Diagonal (1-9, 0-4) square off as opening round opponents in Class 1A Region 3. The Tigers and Maroonettes will face off Monday Oct. 22 at 7 p.m. in Lenox.

Lenox and Diagonal have not played each other this season.

The winner will move on to face the winner of Lamoni (15-6, 5-0) and Central Decatur (5-15, 0-4), which will be happening simultaneously with Lenox and Diagonal.

The winners play Monday Oct. 28 at 7 p.m. in Lenox.

East Union (9-9, 3-0) and Mormon trail (1-13, 0-4) square off in the opening round.

EU and Mormon Trail have not played each other this season. The playoff opener will start at 7 p.m. Monday Oct. 22. Winner will face Class 1A No. 11 East Mills (17-6, 5-1) or Fremont-Mills (7-9, 3-4).

Southwest Valley (19-4, 4-0) and Murray (8-12, 3-2) face off in Class 1A Region 3 also, starting at 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 22. The

The Timberwovles and Lady Mustangs have not seen each other in regular season play.

Winner of SWV and Murray will move on to face the winner of Stanton (18-11, 1-4) and Griswold (10-14, 3-3) Monday, Oct. 28 at 7 p.m.
