Area volleyball roundup: Diagonal picks up win, SWV continues winning streak

Murray 3, Mormon Trail 0

GARDEN GROVE – Murray won 3-0 over Mormon Trail Thursday night.

The Lady Mustangs won 25-22, 25-18 and 25-9 for the match win.

Barber had nine kills and Eggers had five across the three sets. Eggers also had six blocks.

Newton posted a team-high 10 assists and went 10 of 11 from serve. Decker went 23-for-23 from the line with five aces in the win.

Diagonal 3, Orient-Macksburg 2

ORIENT – Diagonal took Orient-Macksburg to the wire Monday night, picking up a 3-2 win over the Bulldogs.

Kaela Eslinger had 13 kills and 14 digs and Caitlyn Gist had 11 kills and eight digs across five sets.

Hailey Johnson had 22 assists and went 22-for23 with three aces at the service line.

For Diagonal, Taylor Lumbard led the team in kills with 15. Anna Newton and Erin Sobotka had seven kills apiece.

Sobotka had 22 assists and multiple players totaled double digits in digs – Sobotka (18), Newton (17), Lumbard (11), Kayla Bentley (11) and Kerrigan Mobley (10).

Mount Ayr 3, Murray 1

MURRAY – Mount Ayr picked up a win over Murray Monday night, winning 3-1 over the Lady Mustangs.

Murray dripped back-to-back sets to the Raiderettes at 25-23 and 25-12, but held on in the third set for a 25-20 set victory. The Raiderettes pushed past Murray in the fourth set winning 25-7.

Channler Henle had 15 kills on 39 attack attempts. She also had 10 digs on 10 of 15 serving and five aces.

Payten Lambert had five kills in 21 attempts and went 8-for-8 on serve. Maddie Stewart and Sam Stewart both were perfect on serving opportunities, going 41-for-31 with four aces between the two of them.

Sam Stewart had 20 digs and Tegan Streit had five kills in the win.

Murray’s Kinzee Eggers led the Lady Mustangs with nine kills and Twila Barber had seven kills.

Rylee Newton had seven assists and Jayda Chew had nine helpers to her linescore.

Barber went 19-for-19 at the service line with seven aces and Bailey Frederick went 12-for-12 with one ace. Emma Decker, Michelle McBurney and Newton each went 8 of 8 at the line.

Southwest Valley 3, Martensdale-St. Marys 0

CORNING – Southwest Valley won its eighth straight game Monday night with a 3-0 win over Martensdale-St. Marys.

The Timberwolves won 25-12, 25-16 and 25-14 across three sets over the Blue Devils.

Kayley Myers and Jentry Schafer had nine kills each in the win and Myers had six digs, a team high.

Isabelle Inman had 23 assists for a team-high. She also had four digs and went 8-for-8 on serve attempts.

Myers also went 17 of 19 from the line with five aces.

Clarinda 3, Mount Ayr 0

MOUNT AYR – Mount Ayr dropped three straight sets to Clarinda Thursday, losing to the Cardinals 25-15, 25-23 and 25-23.

Sam Stewart had six kills, the team-high, for the the Raiderettes.

Maddie Stewart had 10 digs and Sam Stewart had eight digs. Gracie Mobley was 12 of 13 on serve attempts with two aces.

Alexa Anderson and Sam Stewart had one solo block each.
