Martha Hammond, 91, of Diagonal died Oct. 1, 2019.
Memorial services will be 10 a.m. Oct. 3 will be at the United Church of Diagonal. Visitation with family present 9 to 10 a.m. Pastor Gwen Trullinger will officiate the service. Burial will be in Diagonal Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the United Church of Diagonal or the Dollars for Scholars in Diagonal and Creston. Online condolences may be left at www.armstrongfh.com.
Martha Alice (Bladon) Hammond, daughter of Vernon A. “Slim” and Vera M. (Green) Bladon, was born in Clearfield Sept. 9, 1928. She graduated from Clearfield High School. For six years following high school, Martha taught at one-room country schools in Knowlton and Clearfield.
Martha married Richard Dean Hammond Feb. 12, 1949, at the First Christian Church in Creston. They settled on a farm near Diagonal. Martha began working at the Diagonal Community School as the secretary in the superintendent’s office. After 30 years, Martha retired from the Diagonal School in 1988.
Martha is survived by her children: Richard “Dick” Hammond Jr. and Diana Turner (James Pinson); grandchildren: Callie (Mike) Bruce, Tiffini (Jason) Knight, Katie Turner (BJ Thompson), Ryan (Nikki) Hammond, Travis (Emily) Turner and Atisha Bruce; 14 great-grandchildren; brother Frank (Ginger) Bladon; sisters-in-law: Helen Bladon, Rene Bladon and Phyllis Ann (Bill) Andrews; aunt Doris Green; nephews and nieces.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents-in-law Foster (Mary) Hammond, brothers Doyle and LaVern Bladon and son-in-law Curt Turner.
