Area volleyball roundup: Mount Ayr, Murray pick up wins

Mount Ayr 3, East Union 1

MOUNT AYR – Mount Ayr beat East Union 3-1 Tuesday night to improve to win its third straight match of the season.

The win for the Raiderettes improves them to 5-2. East Union falls to 5-7.

The Eagles won the opening set 25-19 before dropping three straight at 25-20, 25-20 and 25-19 to the Raiderettes.

Mount Ayr was led by Channler Henle and Sam Stewart in the kills department with nine apiece. Stewart also posted the high in digs with 18.

Henle had 11 digs and Jaycee Knight had 20 assists. Both Maddie and Sam Stewart were perfect from the service line, going 18-for-18 and 17-for-17, respectively.

EU was led in kills by Alissa Weinkoetz with six kills while Olivia Cheers and Mikayla Sanson both had four.

Elizabeth Hardy led the Eagles in assists with 10 and Jayden Welcher had 17 assists. Alissa Weinkoetz had a solo block.

Murray 3, Melcher-Dallas 1

MURRAY – Murray beat Bluegrass Conference foe Melcher-Dallas Tuesday night, improving to 3-3 on the season.

The Lady Mustangs battled back after an opening set loss (25-16) to win three straight sets at 25-20, 25-21 and 25-22.

Kinzee Eggers had a team leading 11 kills and six blocks. Twila Barber also had nine kills and was perfect from the service stripe, going 27-for-27 with seven aces.

Jayda Chew dished out 18 assists and Michelle McBurney had five digs.

“Kinzee had a nice night tonight at the net. Did a better job of passing and setting in games two, three and four. Still have too many mental letdowns,” said Murray head coach Jerry Shields. “Was nice to knock off an undefeated team from the other side of the conference.”
