Volleyball scrimmage

Creston volleyball will open the seaon Monday at 4:30 p.m. with a scrimmage against the Lenox Tigers.

The public is encouraged to attend the home game and show support for the Panthers’ first unofficial game of the season. Creston will start the regular season on the road against Adel DeSoto Minburn at 7 p.m. Sept. 3.

Creston Balloon Chase 5K and Fun Run

Southwestern cross country and track and field, in conjunction with the 42nd annual Southwest Iowa Hot Air Balloon Days in Creston, will host the Creston Balloon Chase 5K and Fun Run Sept. 21.

The cost to enter the the fun run is free and the cost to enter the 5K is $25. All entries filed before Sept. 7 are guaranteed a SWCC branded t-shirt.

Funds raised by the 5K and the fun run will help fund the 2019-20 Southwestern cross country and track and field season.

Awards will be given to the top overall male and female finishers, as well as to the top three finishers in each of the following male and female age groups: 7 and under, 8-10, 11-14, 15-18, 19-24, 25-34, 35-49, and 50 and over.

Check in on the day of the event will begin at 7 a.m. in McKinley Park by the pool. The 5K race will start at 8 a.m. and will finish in McKinley Park, the 5K will be chip timed and will follow a course that is evenly split between city streets and a walking trail.

If needed, an aid station will be set up approximately halfway.

The fun run will start at 9 a.m.
