Treynor golfer wins champions tourney

Carter, Brown tie for 6th in senior division

ATLANTIC — Nathan Zimmerman came from behind to win the Tournament of Champions last weekend at the Atlantic Golf and Country Club.

Zimmerman, from Treynor Recreation Area, posted a round of 65 on Sunday to edge Jared Koch of Majestic Hills by one stroke, 200-201. Atlantic’s Jake Olsen took third at 204 with past champion Alex Bireline finishing fourth at 207. Atlantic’s Zach Christianson and past champion Ron Peterson tied for fifth with scores of 208.

Past champion Darron Baker won the senior division at 217. The super senior winner was Jim Mullenix of Atlantic Golf and Country Club with a 215.

Joe Schafer of Mount Ayr Golf and Country Club shot 11-over 217 on rounds of 74-74-69 to place 15th. Michael West, representing Crestmoor Golf Club, shot 76-74-71 for 15-over 221 to finish in a tie for 21st place.

Drew Vanderheiden of 5x80 Golf Club shot 76-72-74 for 16-over 22 to place in a tie for 24th place. Drew Thompson, representing Three Lake Golf Club of Lenox, shot 227 in 35th place on rounds of 75-75-77.

In the senior division, past champion Rick Carter of Creston shot 22-over 228 on rounds of 71-80-77 to place in a sixth place tie with Eric Brown of Mount Ayr Golf and Country Club, both at 228. Brown’s rounds were 79-74-75.
