Tracey Allen Simmerman, 59, of Cromwell was charged with first offense possession of a controlled substance and possession of paraphernalia 3:06 a.m. Friday at the intersection of Highway 34 and Cromwell Road.

According to a Creston Police report, while law enforcement was conducting a traffic stop on a vehicle for an inoperable third brake light, an officer observed what he believed to be a digital scale consistent with drug use. The officer asked Simmerman if he could see what it was and Simmerman provided it to the officer. The officer opened the scale, took it back to his vehicle to test it, and the scale came back positive for methamphetamine. The officer then asked Simmerman for consent to search the vehicle. While searching the vehicle for additional contraband, Simmerman was asked to empty his pockets. Inside Simmerman’s pocket was a black bag, which contained a small baggie with methamphetamine, which later tested positive for methamphetamine. The officer also located a box containing a cut straw, which is consistent with methamphetamine usage. Simmerman was asked by the officer whose bag it was and Simmerman stated it was his.

Simmerman was released on $1,300 bond.
