Harry Walters, 70, of Creston died Friday, July 19, 2019, at his home.

Celebration of life services will be 2 p.m. Friday, July 26, at Powers Funeral Home, 601 New York Ave., in Creston. The Rev. Mary O'Riley will officiate the service. Burial will be held privately at a later date. Open visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday with family present from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to his family. Harry Gustuff Walters, son of Helen Elizabeth (Anderson) Walters and Willard Wallace Walters, was born July 25, 1948, in Creston. While growing up, Harry worked at Fareway and in 1966, he graduated from Creston High School. Following his graduation, Harry worked at Boortz Wholesale.

In 1967, Harry married Barb Noble. Together they had three children, Karie, Neil and Jennifer. They later divorced. Harry then moved to California for a short time, and then in 1975, he returned to Creston where he was employed with High Lines Electrical and worked for Burlington Northern on the bridge crew.

On Sept. 11, 1982, Harry married Jennifer Verlea Carpenter in Creston. They added two children to the family, Chancy and Haylee. Harry started his own business in graphic art, and in 1994, he opened Walters Custom Signs. He owned and operated the business in uptown Creston, specializing in pin striping detail and commercial and residential signs.

Harry was a former member of Church of Nazarene and Creston Eagles Lodge.

Harry is survived by his wife Jennifer; children, Karie (significant other Bob Fleharty) of Creston, Neil Walters of Creston, Jenny (Jon) Menzner of Swisher, Chancy Walters (significant other Jess Johnston) of Creston and Haylee (Nick) Alley of Liberty, Missouri; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; brothers, Francis (Carol) Walters of Earlham, John (Shari) Walters of Creston and Steve (Sheri) Walters of Omaha, Nebraska; sisters, Karen Walters of Creston, Mary Walters of Ocala, Florida, Patty Bolinger of Creston, Dianne (Galen) White of Lenox and Rose (Larry) Miller of Des Moines; brothers-in-law, Dewy Carpenter of Red Oak and Jay (Robbie) Carpenter of Portales, New Mexico; along with many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.

Harry was preceded in death by his parents, Willard and Helen Walters; mother-in-law Verlea Sands Carpenter, brothers-in-law, Jack Carpenter and John Carpenter, father-in-law Dewey Carpenter and many cousins.
