Catherine Claiser

Erie, Colo.

Catherine Cay Claiser, 67, formerly of Arispe, died Monday, July 1, 2019, at her home in Erie, Colorado. The daughter of Edsel Claiser and Irene (Miller) Weis, Cathy was born Dec. 28, 1951, in Fort Collins, Colorado. The majority of her childhood and adulthood was spent in southwest Iowa. In 1997, Cathy returned to settle in Colorado closer to family living in the area. To the countless lives she touched, Cathy was a model of grace, encouragement, determination and uncommon commitment to her faith, her family and her many friends.

A 1970 graduate of East Union High School, Cathy went on to Graceland University to earn her Bachelor of Science in nursing in 1974. She spent her entire career working in the health care field and was passionate about caring for the aging in her community. Cathy served as director of nursing at Crest Haven Care Center and Ringgold County Hospital; as a health facilities surveyor for the state of Iowa; and as a surveyor for both the state of Colorado and for the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. During her career, she also founded and operated Alpha and Omega Consultants, a home health consulting firm, which operated throughout the state of Iowa.

Cathy loved being active in the Arispe community. Her greatest joy was time spent supporting her two children, Brian and Brenda, which is something she and her former spouse, Dave Lee Davenport of Creston, have done throughout their lives. She could always be found cheering loudly on the sidelines and attending music concerts, academic events and plays. As an active church member, Cathy served faithfully in many capacities at the Afton Assembly of God Church.

A two-time breast cancer survivor, she passionately supported the breast cancer movement, even completing two half-marathons for breast cancer awareness with her daughter. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, laughing wholeheartedly, painting, jewelry-making, camping and exploring the Colorado mountains. After her retirement, Cathy cherished time with her three dogs, Iris, Maddie and Ted.

Cathy will be profoundly missed by her children, Brian Davenport (Ann) of Minneapolis, Minnesota, and Brenda Davenport of Columbia, Tennessee; her sister and two brothers, Robin Landers of Bentonville, Arkansas, Marion Claiser (Wendy) of Elkton, Maryland, and Jim Claiser (Susie) of Afton; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers, Edsel Dean Claiser Jr. and Nick Claiser.

A memorial service will be announced and held at a later date in Afton and a private ceremony for the family will be held in Colorado. Condolences can be sent to the Cathy Claiser Family, 2422 Arden Village Dr., Columbia, TN 38401. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made in Cathy's name to the Denver-area eldercare work of A Little Help, 2755 S. Locust St., Ste. 220, Denver, CO 80222 or www.alittlehelp.org.
