Nine area athletes were selected to the Bluegrass all-conference teams released Wednesday.
After a regional semifinal exit, Murray placed four on the first team all-conference roster.
Getting the honors at pitcher was Truman State commit Bre Klein, who limited opponents to a .147 batting average while posting a 1.13 ERA – the second best mark in the News Advertiser coverage area – in 111 1/3 innings pitched with 198 punchouts.
While at the plate, Klein crushed a .555 average with a Class 1A best 13 home runs. She drove in 41 runs on 13 doubles and had a total of 61 hits.
At second base, representing the Lady Mustangs was sophomore Katy Gibbs who had a .316 batting average and drove in 20 runs to go along with five doubles.
Kelli Romero locked down a spot on the first team roster in the outfield where she had a .385 batting average with three home runs and 27 RBIs.
Earning a first team spot at utility for her work as a pitcher and as a shortstop was Kayla Wookey. Wookey hit for a.404 average at the plate and drove in 23 RBIs to go with one home run.
While in the circle, Wookey posted a 2.16 ERA in 90 2/3 innings of work and held opposing batters to a .158 average with 154 strikeouts.
Second team honors
Two more players were presented with second team honors in the News Advertiser coverage area.
Murray’s Hailey Chew picked up the nomination in her final season with the Lady Mustangs. Chew received the award from her outfield position and at the plate posted a .357 batting average with 14 RBIs, a double and three triples.
Orient-Macksburg found its lone representative on the second team list at the utility spot.
Kaela Eslinger earned second team honors after posting a .392 batting average at the plate with 10 doubles, three triples, three home runs and 22 RBIs. Eslinger also drew 29 walks over the course of the season and was 21-of-22 on the base path.
While pitching, Eslinger threw 170 innings for the Bulldogs and posted an opponent batting average of .227 to go alongside a 3.95 ERA. She recorded 128 strikeouts in 31 appearances.
Honorable
mention
Another Bulldog earned honorable mention all-conference as Haylee Gardner picked up the all-conference nod.
Gardner hit for a .211 average at the dish and drove in 10 RBI on 12 hits while posting a .384 on-base percentage. She also had a .918 fielding percentage from her second base position.
Emily Newton of Diagonal also earned an honorable mention all-conference selection.
Newton threw 87 innings of work for the Maroonettes and struck out 63 over the course of the season. While at the plate, Newton hit for a .255 average with four RBI, six walks drawn and five stolen bases.
The Lady Mustangs added one more to the all-conference list in Kendra Boles. In her final campaign with Murray, Boles posted a.258 average at the plate and drove in 24 RBIs with a homer.
