Softball roundup: Lenox stays hot, NV falls in 10 innings

Mount Ayr 7, Bedford 1

MOUNT AYR – Mount Ayr and Bedford suspended play in the bottom of the fourth Tuesday afternoon as a combination of rain and lightning passed through town during play.

Alexa Anderson homered in the fourth inning for the Raiderettes to push the run total to seven for Mount Ayr entering the bottom half of the inning.

At the time the game was called, Bedford was threatening with the bases loaded and no outs.

There was no official rescheduling date as of time of print.

Orient-Macksburg 8, Diagonal 4

ORIENT – Orient-Macksburg came out on top over Diagonal Thursday, beating the Maroonettes 8-4.

O-M’s Kaela Eslinger pitched seven innings, striking out eight and walking one in the win. She also went 1-for-2 at the plate and scored, stole a base and walked twice.

Cortney Gross went 2-4 with a run scored and drove in a run.

For Diagonal, Emily Newton pitched her way to five strikeouts and four walks. She also went 1-3 at the plate, stealing a base and walking once.

Eighth grader Taylor Lumbard went 3-4 with a run scored and a double. She was joined in the doubles department by Erin Sobotka, who went 2-4 with two runs scored.

Melcher-Dallas 11, Orient-Macksburg 1

ORIENT – Melcher-Dallas toppled Orient-Macksburg Monday night, winning over the Bulldogs 11-1.

Lenox 16, East Union 1

AFTON – Lenox rolled over East Union Monday afternoon, winning 16-1 over the Eagles.

The Eagles were able to get three hits off Lenox’s TJ Stoaks, two coming from Kaitlyn Mitchell and the other coming from a solo homer off the bat of Kaylin Lack.

Stoaks struck out eight EU batters while walking two. She also went 4-4 at the plate, scoring three times. She fell a triple short of the cycle, hitting a homer and a double with four RBIs.

Kayla Yzaguirre had a three-hit day, scoring twice. Brooklynn Ecklin had a two-hit day as well, scoring twice.

Lauren Christensen had three RBIs out of the six hole, going 1-3 at the plate.

Lenox 7,

Lamoni 0

LENOX – The Tigers took care of Lamoni Monday night, winning over Lamoni 7-0.

The win for the Tigers made it five in a row with Lenox, outscoring opponents 44-1 during the streak.

Lenox 10, Fremont-Mills 0

TABOR – Lenox topped Fremont-Mills Wednesday, winning 10-0.

Stoaks pitched her way to a two-hit shutout, striking out 11 batters while walking one.

Cassidy Nelson went 2-4, doubling and driving in three runs. Yzaguirre also drove in three RBIs, hitting a double.

McKinna Hogan, Morgan Parrish, Christensen, Ecklin and Stoaks each had two hits in the win.

Mount Ayr 10, Southwest Valley 0 (6)

CORNING – The Raiderettes rolled over the Timberwolves Thursday, winning 10-0 in six innings.

The Timberwolves had two hits off the bats of Ryanne Mullen and Anna Inman in the loss.

Caroline McAlexander struck out 11 in six innings for Mount Ayr. She also had a solid day at the plate, going 2-3 with a home run and three RBIs.

Addy Reynolds and Alexa Anderson each scored twice for Mount Ayr. They also both walked twice.

Bedford 12, Nodaway Valley 7 (10)

GREENFIELD – Nodaway Valley lost to Bedford Thursday night, falling in a 12-7 final in extra innings.

Ten innings was how far the game went before finding a tie breaker as Bedford put up a five-run top of the tenth to take the lead for the win.

The Wolverines scored three in the bottom of the seventh to keep the game going, and put another on the board in their half of the eighth after Bedford scored again in the top half.

Reagan Weinheimer went 3-5 in the loss, scoring twice. McKynli Newbury also had three hits.

McKynna Newbury finished the day 2-6 with three runs driven in.

Natalie Yonker threw 153 pitches over nine innings for NV, striking out two and walking six.
