‘Laugh-In’ to be presented at Warren Cultural Center

GREENFIELD – The Cumberland Rose Players (CRP) will present their latest rendition of “Laugh-In” 7 p.m. July 4 and 6 at Warren Cultural Center. “Rowan and Martin’s Laugh-In” was a TV show from 1968-73 on NBC. The Players first put their own take on the show in February 2006 with a set of the facade of the opera house containing doors and windows that open for jokes to be told, like on the “Laugh-In” show. July 2009 brought RAGBRAI to Greenfield, along with a second CRP bike-themed “Laugh-In.”

With Greenfield hosting the Fourth of July this year, the Players decided to provide a chance for patrons to enjoy the air conditioning of the Warren Cultural Center before heading to Lake Greenfield for festivities and fireworks there later. Director Melissa Schwartz reports Phil Cannon and Dan Dickinson will be reprising their roles of Dan Rowan and Dick Martin as hosts of the show, and Schwartz will portray Edith Ann in her giant chair. Others performing include Melody Olson as the telephone operator Ernestine, Brenda Plymesser as the Ruth Buzzi bench lady with John Schildberg, Ronn Vandevender as the Arte Johnson character, Lynn Hansen as Goldie Hawn and Craig Plymesser as announcer Gary Owens. Sam Schwartz will share his shaving song (as he did in 2006), the Coneheads from Saturday Night Live will make an appearance, as will Sonny and Cher, along with other surprises.

Schwartz encourages everyone to enjoy “Laugh-In” 7 p.m. Thursday or Saturday.
