Thomas Vicker

Thomas H. Vicker, 71, of Naples, Florida, formerly of Creston, passed away Monday, June 3, 2019, at Physicians Regional Medical Center in Naples, Florida.

A memorial gathering will be held Friday, June 21, at Pearson Family Funeral Service, 809 W. Montgomery St., in Creston. The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. A private interment will be in Bohemian National Cemetery, in rural Prescott. Memorial contributions may be directed to the family. Thomas Harold Vicker was next to the youngest child born to Arthur and Mary Lillian (Duben) Vicker. He was born in Creston on Jan. 23, 1948. Tom was educated in the Creston Public Schools and graduated from Creston High School with the class of 1966. Following graduation, Tom attended Southwestern Community College and earned his ASE Master Certification in auto mechanics.

In 1968, Tom joined the United States Army and served in the Old Guard in Washington, DC. He was very proud to serve his country. After his dishcharge on Feb. 26, 1970, Tom returned to Creston and worked in the family restaurant, “Vicks Lunch.” In 1972, he moved to Naples, Florida, where he held assorted jobs in the construction field. He then worked as a mechanic and machinist.

Tom was united in marriage to Ruta Weber on July 6, 1981, in Naples, Florida. He obtained his Coast Guard captain license and had a fishing charter service. His boat was called “Peg Leg, II” and specialized in shark fishing. At the time of his death, Tom was working for Castles Services making hurricane shutters. He was fondly named Uncle Tom by his co-workers. He also built and raced his swamp buggy, Vick’s 44 from 1976-1991. Tom loved riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle in his spare time. His family meant the world to Tom and he will be missed by his family and many friends.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents; a brother Ken Vicker; two sisters, Eilene Mikkelsen and Sally Vicker; a niece Kimberly Vicker and a brother-in-law Larry Woods.

Thomas is survived by his wife Ruta Vicker of Naples, Florida; a daughter Barbara (David) Maynor of Naples, Florida; sister Shirley Woods of Lenox; nieces, Janet (Tim) Bennett of Clearfield and DeeDee Young of Tunica, Mississippi; nephews, Jason Woods of Creston, David Mikkelsen of Huxley, Pete (Liz) Mikkelsen of Urbandale and Terry (Dunavan) Fortag of Nashville, Tennessee; brother-in-law Jerry Mikkelsen of Creston; five great-nieces; seven great-nephews; eight great-great-nieces and five great-great-nephews; many cousins and friends.
